QLD: Three Canadian tourists injured in van crash
BRISBANE, April 20 AAP - Three Canadian tourists were seriously injured when their van ran
off the road and into a drain on the southern outskirts of Sarina, 35 kms south of Mackay,
police said today.
One of the men is being treated for a suspected broken neck after he was thrown from the
van as it crossed onto the wrong side of the road, down an embankment and smashed into the
drain at about 6.15am today, Sergeant Bob Cain of Sarina police said.
The driver of the car was trapped in the wreckage for more than an hour and the two male
passengers were injured as they were violently flung around inside the Toyota van.
Sgt Cain said the driver had suspected broken legs and the rear passenger had suspected
spinal injuries.
He said the tourists were stablised at the Sarina Hospital, then taken to the Mackay
Hospital for further treatment and x-rays.
The three men were believed to be travelling north to Cairns, but further details of the
tourists were not immediately avaiable.
