Govt worried about Olympic defectors

A parliamentary committee was trying to ensure potential asylum seekers and defectors did
not compete at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Acting Prime Minister Tim Fischer said today.

Mr Fischer declined to comment on a report that the Immigration Department was working with
the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) to prevent the post Olympic
problem of defections.
