KATHMANDU, March 6 -- Computer users who are turned off by a snarl of wires cluttering their desktop are turning to wireless input devices. Keyboard and mouse which run on Wi-Fi, a networking technology that allows communication without wires, use a USB-based nano receiver. The latest ones use Bluetooth.
You can find wireless keyboards from more than 15 brands in the market. Logitech, Prolink, Belkin and Dulex are some of the popular names.
Trishna Tuladhar, product manager at Neoteric Nepal, authorised dealer of Swiss-based Logitech, said more people were asking for wireless keypads and mouse these days. In response to growing demand, the company has recently launched Bluetooth-based wireless keypads.
Neoteric has also been selling air mouse, which does not require any supportive base to operate, for more than two years. It carries a price tag of Rs 20,000 to Rs 22,000. The company will be introducing solar-based keyboard in the near future, said Tuladhar.
Similarly, SHTC International deals in wireless input devices from Prolink. According to Sahadev Karki of SHTC, these devices have a range of up to 10 m. These keyboards are available in regular and mini size which does not have a number pad.
Saroj Shrestha of IT Globe said there was growing demand for wireless keypads which contain more keys than the conventional keyboard to support different functions including multimedia and Internet browsing.
Users are freed of problems like loose connections which can happen to traditional devices connected with cables, he added. "Unlike the optical mouse, one can use the laser mouse even on top of glass," said Shrestha.
Wireless keypad and mouse run on a 1.5 volt battery. Traders offer a three-year warranty on these devices. According to dealers, these devices are water resistant and dust proof.
Prices for regular size wireless keyboards range from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,700 while the mini size costs Rs 1,500 to Rs 1,800.
